The Most Anticipated Egyptian Tv Series in Ramadan

Every year, Arabs and, namely, Egyptians wait enthusiastically for the new tv series that Ramadan parades, trying to decide which ones are worth watching. 2021 is stuffed full of new tv series starring a plethora of leading stars that are highly admired by the Egyptian population. So, the competition this year is indeed a challenging one. In this article, we will tackle the most important tv series that managed to turn heads once their teasers were released.

Mousa 

The story takes place during the British occupation of Egypt and is about the success story and journey from rags to riches of Mousa – a protagonist whose father died, leaving him to bear the responsibility of his brothers. Mousa is forced to leave upper Egypt and move to Cairo to work in transferring goods from Ghaza to Egypt and vice versa. He admires a French girl, leading many events to follow in a dramatic setting. The series stars Muhammad Ramadan, Sumaya al-Khashab, Abeer Sabry, Riad El-Khouli, Sayed Ragab, Sabri Fawaz, Munther Rayahneh, Heba Magdy, Farida Seif Al-Nasr, Arifa Abdel Rasoul, Amir Salah El-Din, Diaa Abdel Khaleq, among others. It is written by Nasser Abdulrahman and directed by Muhammad Salama.

Naguib Zahi Zarkash

Since Ramadan 2019, people have been eagerly anticipating the come-back of Yehia El Fakharani after his last tv series ‘Bel Hagm El A’eli’ (2018). The series co-stars Anushka, Sherine and, Rana Raees, Noha Abdeen, Karim Afifi, Islam Ibrahim, Muhammad Mahmoud, Tamim Abdo, Muhammad Al-Sawy, Fattouh Ahmed, and Hala Fakher. It is directed by Shady Al-Fakhrani and written by Abdul Rahim Kamal. El Fakharani and Abdul Rahim Kamal have achieved wide-spread success when they collaborated for Al Khawaga Abdel Kader (2012) and Wanoos (2016). So, after these two drama-infused shows, the duo is preparing to strike again with a light-hearted story this time. 

Nasl Al-Aghrab (Strangers’ Descendants)

Nasl Al-Aghurab is an Egyptian dramatic series written and directed by Mohamed Sami, starring Ahmed El-Sakka, Amir Karara, and Mai Omar. Ahmed El Sakka portrays the character of Assaf Gharib who falls deeply in love with Jalila, embodied by Mai Omar, leading to a love story suffused with familial obstacles and challenges for the infatuated couple and putting El Sakka’s character in jail. After being accused of murder, El Sakka’s character regains his freedom to find out that his friend (Amir Karara’s character) has married his wife and manipulated his son, so he decides to take revenge. The story takes place within the society of Upper Egypt.

Hagma Mortada (Counterattack)

The events of the series are based on some recent files of the Egyptian intelligence, revolving around an Egyptian young man who tries to communicate with the intelligence service after an invitation he receives to be recruited as a spy for a foreign country. Afterwards, his training begins at the hands of Egyptian intelligence officials played by Nidal Al-Shafei and Hisham Selim to stop hostile incidents. Counterattack stars Ahmed Ezz, Hind Sabry, Hisham Selim, Salah Abdullah, Magda Zaki, Ahmed Fouad Selim, Nidal Al-Shafei, Mahmoud Al-Bazawi, Muhammad Jumaa, Hajar Al-Sharnoubi, Mohamed Adel, Amir Salah, Khaled Anwar, and Mayan Al-Sayed. The series is written by Baher Dewidar, directed by Ahmed Alaa El-Deeb, and produced by Synergy. The filming process took place in many countries, including Serbia and Croatia. The series was scheduled to participate in the Ramadan race last year, but due to the Corona pandemic and the consequent delay in filming, the series has been postponed to Ramadan 2021.

Harb Ahleya (Civil War)

The series tackles a wide range of familial conflicts and complexities and sheds light on the story of a woman who is forced to leave her daughter when she was young. The daughter grows up in the custody of her stepmother, which makes her harsh on her true mother. Yousra appears in a completely new role: She works as a plastic surgeon who is involved in many conflicts with her husband. Events follow in a dramatic and interesting framework. The series Stars Yousra, Basil El Khayat, Jamila Awad, and Sarah Al-Tunisi. It is written by Ahmed Adel, directed by Sameh Abdel Aziz, and co-produced by Synergy and Al-Adl Group.

Cairo Kabol

The series deals with three exciting stories about some hatched plots against the Middle East, especially Egypt in the recent period, highlighting the terrorist attacks that took place recently. Tariq Lotfi portrays the character of a terrorist who cooperates with several terrorist organizations, whereas Fathi Abdel Wahab plays the role of a policeman who works day and night to stop Lotfi’s crimes. Khaled El Sawi embodies the role of a tv-host who tries to raise public awareness about what is happening. The series develops within the backdrop of a social story about a group of friends who were scattered throughout the world and met again after 30 years and highlights the drastic changes that took place in the recent 30 years in Egypt’s history.

Le’bet Newton (Newton’s Game)

 Mona Zaki is returning back to television with a new tv series called Newton’s Game, which was previously called Taqato’ Torok (Crossroads) and was scheduled to be aired last Ramadan but was postponed due to Coronavirus. The series is a romantic drama about a wife who suffers from a doomed marriage and decides to end her marital life to travel abroad. Mona embodies the character of an agricultural engineer called Hannah, who works in a farm. The series is co-starring Mohamed Mamdouh, Aisha bin Ahmed, Muhammad Farraj, Hanan Youssef, and Sayed Rajab. It is written and directed by Tamer Mohsen.

Covid 25

This 15-episode series will star Youssef El Sherif and is written by his wife Engy Alaa and directed by Ahmed Galal. Engy Alaa announced in a press release that Covid 25 is not a sequel to ‘El Nehaya’ The End (2020), noting that the series is only 15 episodes, not 30 as some had thought. The End (2020) managed to attract attention and gain favour among Egyptians since it was the-first-of-its-kind sci-fic tv series to be produced by Egyptians. Although many people criticized the series’ costumes, the interesting story and plot twists made the (The End) series worthy of praise. 

El Ikhtyar 2 (The Choice 2)

After the overwhelming success achieved by the first season of the series The Choice (2020), which tackled the stories of real heroes belonging to the Egyptian Armed Forces, season 2 is expected to lead the race. The second season is going to echo the first season in presenting true stories of Egyptian policemen who surfaced as martyrs and heroes during the latest terror attacks that took place in Egypt. The series will delve into the human realm of these admired figures in an atmosphere replete with intricacies and gripping events that will keep audiences hooked. The pioneers of social networking sites interacted strongly when the trailer was launched by producer Tamer Morsi. Besides, the series will star Karim Abdel Aziz along with Ahmed Mekki in his first dramatic work after landing numerous comical ones.

Ded El Kasr (Unbroken)

Ded El Kasr is written by Amr El-Daly and directed by Ahmed Khaled. It stars Nelly Karim, Mohamed Farraj, Meet Al-Khamisi, Hisham Ismail, Mustafa Darwish, Tara Emad, Sentina Khalifa, Hamza Al-Ali, and Naheir Amin. The series tackles the story of Salma who suffers from the recklessness of her husband who is involved in a myriad of extramarital affairs. The series comes after many dazzling performances made by Nelly Karim who has a reputable television repertoire that comprises many acclaimed works, such as B 100 Wesh, Taht El Saytara, Segn El Nessa, and Le A’la Se’r. That is why it is highly expected that Ded El Kasr will stand out among the rest.

Bayn El Sama Wel Ard

The series is taken from a well-known story by the international writer Naguib Mahfouz which was turned into a movie in 1959. The story revolves around a group of strangers who meet in an elevator who gets stuck, leaving them hung between the sky and the ground. The protagonists’ problematic situation symbolizes their complicated lives and characters. In order to while away their difficult time, they start sharing many personal stories and delve into many social events. The small society of the lift acts as a symbolic representation and a replica of the entire Egyptian society. The lift, which is the story’s backdrop, is also a symbol of the confusion and uncertainty shrouding the entire country. Many decisions will be made, and many obstacles will be faced in a well-tailored synthesis of drama and comedy. The series stars Hani Salama, Dorra Zarrouk, Yousra Al-Lawzi, Sawsan Badr, Najlaa Badr, Nourhan, Nada Musa, Ahmed Badir, Mona Abdel-Ghani, Mahmoud Al-Laithi, and Ahmed Al-Selkawy. It is produced by Synergy and directed by Mohammed El Adl.

El Tawoos (The Peacock) 

The Peacock stars Jamal Suleiman and Sahar El Sayegh and is directed by Raouf Abdel Aziz.  The series tackles the themes of feminism and sexual harassment delving into the root causes that trigger men to treat women as playthings. The series aims at exposing the mentality of sexual predators who lack sexual awareness and deem themselves superior to women. The patriarchal environment that women inhabit in the Middle East have led to life-shattering hazards that need to be abolished, and no abolishment can take place without awareness. The series tackles the development of sexual predators from being normal human beings with humane instincts to devilish creatures that no longer resemble humans. The series showcases Samiha Ayoub, Ahmed Fouad Selim, Rania Mahmoud Yassin, Hala Fakher, Khaled Alish, Abed Anani, Heba Abdel Ghani, Maha Nassar, and Farah Al Zahid.

Kasr El Nil (The Nile Palace)

 The series revolves around a plethora of hidden conflicts triggered by money, power, politics, and love during the 1950s and 1960s in the aftermath of the July Revolution in Egypt against the monarchy. The story begins with the murder of a businessman called Fahmi Pasha al-Sioufi in Britain, leaving his sons, brother, and sister a great wealth, including a huge palace on the banks of the Nile. How will the family live after his death during such a critical period led by the officers of the revolution considering the previous relations that Fahmi Pasha built with the royal entourage in Egypt? And what is the secret behind such a mysterious crime that casts a shadow over all the palace’s inhabitants? The series stars Dina El Sherbiny, Reham Abdel Ghafour, Sabri Fawaz, Ahmed Magdy, Salah Abdullah, Mahmoud Al Bazawi, Nabil Eisa, and others. It is directed by Khaled Marei and written by Muhammad Suleiman Abdel Malik.

Del Ragel (A Man’s Shadow) 

The series tackles the story of a poor man who tries to take revenge for his daughter after being assaulted by a gang. The series belongs to the category of popular drama and discusses the problems of the Egyptian neighbourhood. The events take place in one of the developing areas, revolving around the story of a man who works as a teacher and taxi driver, whose daughter is exposed to an assault accident. He struggles to retaliate and at the same time face the criticism of his neighbours. The series stars Yasser Galal, Nermin Al-Feki, Mahmoud Abdel-Mughni, Ahmed Halawa, Enaam Salousa, Mohamed Adel Mido, Rana Rais, Nour Al-Lebanese, Essam El-Sakka, Nihad Nour, Ihab Fahmy, Magdy Fikry, Mohamed Ali Rizk, Mohamed Yousry, and Alaa Arafa.

Koloh Bel Hob (All with Love)

Koloh Bel Hob is a social series that discusses numerous familial issues, such as marriage, marital problems, and divorce. The series sheds light on the relationship between spouses after divorce and the reasons for divorce, such as personal conflicts and life challenges. The series stars Zena, Sabreen, Samer El Masry, Reem El Baroudy, Mostafa Darweesh, and Saleh Abdel Naby. It is directed by Essam Adel Hamed. 

Lahm Ghazal 

The promo of the series yielded 2 million views after Ghada Abdel Razik posted it through her official Instagram page. The series revolves around an impoverished girl named Ghazal portrayed by Ghada Abdel Razik. Ghazal gets engaged in many social conflicts, especially the ones that arise between her and her sister due to Ghazal’s controversial job. Afterwards, Ghazal experiences a transformation from rags to riches and becomes one of the top notable ladies in her community. The series stars Ghada Abdel Razek, Sherif Salama, Amr Abdel Gelil, Mai Selim, Wafaa Amer, Rehab El Gamal, Ehab Fahmy, and Sherif Desouky.
