Egyptian painter and writer Abdelaziz Al-Samahy inaugurated his exhibition, titled Women of Egypt\/Soul of Egypt in the beginning of October at the Cairo Opera House. For his expo to see the light, it took the artist around three years of hard work. The exposition\u2019s paintings mainly depicted the hard work Egyptian women do during their daily lives.\u00a0 He is also the writer of the touching story \u201cMimi, Armenia\u2019s White Flower\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n

What kind of arts do you practice?\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

I am a storywriter, poet, novelist, painter, playwright, graphic designer, cartoonist, and illustrator.<\/p>\n

You have mentioned that it took you three years to finish these paintings. What is the source of patience behind going on with your art? <\/strong><\/p>\n

It is the same feeling when a cooker is standing for a long time in the kitchen for a meal he knows it would be eaten in minutes. In other words, you enjoy the journey itself. I get rid of all kinds of stress and sadness and all negative vibes through practicing arts. It makes my mind clear.<\/p>\n

How about your previous artistic displays?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I made nine oil paintings expos and participated, amongst several artists around the world, in S\u00e3o Paulo Biennial for Caricatures 1999.<\/p>\n

Did you win any prize before?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes, it was the National Cartoon Prize.<\/p>\n

As a writer, what books did you publish?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A book that included short stories under the title of \u201cAl-Bastamy\u2019s Secrets\u201d, a children\u2019s book \u201cThe Strong, the Wealthy, and the Wise\u201d, three novels \u201cA Newspaper on a Boat\u201d and \u201cMimi, Armenia\u2019s White Flower\u201d and the \u201cThe Slaves\u2019 Prayers\u201d.<\/p>\n

What are the novels\u2019 themes about?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am keen on expressing the human suffering through arts. The Slaves\u2019 Prayers talks about the period of slavery, from the time of Muhammad Aly Pasha to the 1952 Revolution, in Egypt, Sudan, Hejaz, and the Levant. \u201cA Newspaper on a Boat\u201d is about the hard time Egyptians passed throughout the Second World War. \u201cMimi, Armenia\u2019s White Flower\u201d is about the Armenian hardship.<\/p>\n

Could you pick up one of these and talk about its circumstances? <\/strong><\/p>\n

I am going for the novel \u201cMimi, Armenia\u2019s White Flower\u201d. During reading about history, I discovered about the Armenians\u2019 story. What caught my attention was that not many know about it and it is a rich material for an opus.<\/p>\n

How long did writing this novel last? <\/strong><\/p>\n

It lasted for three years. I had to get back to many references, bearing in mind that these were rare in Arabic. It was hard, yet enjoyable work.<\/p>\n

Did you get in touch with Armenians before the novel?<\/strong><\/p>\n

No, it happened after. The novel was the magical stick that opened for me the Armenians\u2019 treasure. I met more the 50 Armenians and even travelled to the Country. I visited many places there, such as the Armenian capital, Yerevan, and the town of Sevan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

The opera singer Farrah El Dibany is the first Egyptian to win the Prix Lyrique de l\u2019AROP, which is the best opera singer award awarded by the Paris Opera house. Born in Alexandria, Egypt, El Dibany joined the Arts Centre of the Library of Alexandria in 2005.<\/p>\n

Five years later, she attended the Hanns-Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. In 2016, she joined the Paris Opera troupe, becoming the first Egyptian national to ever join the prestigious academy. .The young singer won a number of other awards, including a prize at the 2017 Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg Festival and the Wagner Stiftung Prize in 2018.
